Mercy Children’s home has two locations; the first was started in the beautiful city of Pokhara, nestled in the middle of the Annapurna mountain range. The second home is in Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu. It is a faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to raising a generation of Nepali children to love and serve Jesus.

As Sher Lama prayed for God’s calling on his life he saw a big field filled with many banana trees that were cut off. From those cut off banana trees, tiny new banana plants with two or three leaves were coming up. He asked God in his prayer, what is this? Then he heard a voice within his heart say, “This is your ministry” and he knew God was telling him to start a children’s home. In 2003 he and his wife, Kalpana, opened their first home in Pokhara. They have a vision to open three more children’s homes and take in two children from each of the 50 most unreached tribes in Nepal.

Many of the children Sher and Kalpana have raised in Pokhara have grown and been sent to study at university, bible college, or vocational training schools. That home is now in the process of taking in new kids as Sher and Kalpana care for the 12 children, plus three of their own, living under their roof in Kathmandu.
