FEBRUARY | 2017
LOCATION: THE MIDDLE EAST
We are planning to travel to the Middle East this upcoming February to Syrian + Iraqi refugee camps with the goal of distributing much needed winter, food, and medical supplies to the marginalized. We will be partnering with indigenous peoples to administer the love of Jesus to the refugees.
We desire to assist the refugees and the children who suffered from the war in Iraq and Syria.
$12,500 will be used for coupon distributions. Instead of purchasing food that the refugees may not want or need, we are partnering with local stores neighboring the refugee camps. The store managers have agreed to give 5-7% off of items in their store for the refugees. We will pay the stores a set amount of money for each family to buy a set amount to food (approximately 1 month worth of groceries). We have designed a coupon distribution program, where each refugee family can redeem their food coupons at these partnering markets.
We plan to distribute coupons to approximately 2,000 needy refugee families - those who have suffered gruesome deaths of family members and who have had homes bombed. We will spend time building relationships with these families, praying for them, ministering to them, and giving them the opportunity to share their story for the world to hear. We desire for them to know that they are not forgotten.
Families were forced to flee their homes often without warning, thinking that they would eventually return. Unfortunately this means that many are left to endure the frigid winter months in unwinterized tents in refugee camps, leaving them without proper winter apparel.
One of the most basic needs of families who fled their homes to escape the Islamic State (ISIS) is obtaining a job while living in exile. Most adults who fled had a skill and a career before the Islamic State changed their life. Now, millions of refugees wane away in bereft, makeshift refugee camps. They must depend on foreign governments to provide clean drinking water, food staples, and tents. Far too often, these essentials are not properly provided.
As winter comes, living conditions for these refugee families intensely worsen. Without lack of winter supplies, proper nutrition and medical help, these refugees will continue to suffer. With temperatures set to drop this year it is important that everyone has the supplies they need. Our goal is to deliver food packages and winter supplies to at least 78 families.
